Note to self -

DO NOT go out drinking on a Saturday when you have to stand in formation for an hour at parade rest on the following Sunday. Ouch. That hurt. Sleep when you die. Oh, I almost forgot... Note to half witted redneck idiots at the bar - DO NOT believe that because you are in a country bar that you have the right to drop the N bomb on an American Soldier that is about to deploy to Iraq without incurring the wrath of ALL of his battle buddies and thus risk grievous bodily harm. I am just saying. Is. All. more...

NOT an "assault" rifle.

In Omaha. It was an SKS (aka Simonov or type 56 Chinese). BY DEFINITION NOT AN ASSAULT RIFLE, albiet with some modifications can be "converted" to fit the BATFE definition of an assualt rifle.  I wish the leftists at the AP would stop calling EVERYTHING and assult rifle.

"Witnesses said the gunman sprayed fired down on shoppers from a third-floor balcony of the Von Maur store using what police said was an SKS assault rifle they found at the scene."

full story here

(did the Police really call the SKS an "assault rifle" or just an SKS?)

How wrong were we? How wrong ARE we?

In Bosnia and Kosovo....maybe the Serbs weren't the *real* bad guys....in context of today....should we be regretting the order by the Clintonistas to go into the Balkins the way we did....sort of like we regretted not following Patton's advice near the end of WWII....

A photo essay of how wrong we were....here.

Sweaty!

Just got back from the morning run...we ran inside @ the gym today as a treat to the Soldiers...and the temperature difference made me sweat like a pig So here I am drinking a "Zipfizz" and water - Zipfizz....that shit is NASTY....of course it tasted MUCH better when I was drinking it from a cup - especially prepared for me by the SUPER fit young hottie that was hawking the stuff in Sam's Club. And yes - I bought a case of the stuff in lieu of my standard Gatoraid Rain. Damn it all for proper marketing, product placement and hot sales women. Such a sucker.

A long week and a great week end...

This week was an exercise in Senior NCO diplomacy, typical army bureaucracy and extreme restraint as I battled incompetence in some of my “peers”,  raged against the bureaucratic machine that is echelons above company level and kept from putting a 1SG fatwa out on some Soldiers (junior NCOs at that) that have forgotten what it is to be a Soldier. That all having been said…the vast majority of the troops are stellar and I am very pleased with the unit so far.

>

But the weekend brought legendary good times and a pretty decent hangover -

A quick shout out to those that have made this weekend stellar  - Deb and Justin, thanks for dinner, it was good to see you both! The regulars at the “James Joyce Pub”, thanks for the Irish Car Bombs, the rum and coke and the hang over! The ladies at the pub, the club and the bar - J thanks for the dancing and laughs! To my wingman – you know who you are – Raise what’s left of the flag for me!

>

If you readers ever get to ATL and are in need of a great Pub – check out the James Joyce in Avondale Estates, in the Decatur area– damn fine joint…

This is the most f*cked up thing I have seen in a while -

I have a Soldier in my unit that has emergent dental care issues - he is in pain and bleeding - we are on orders, and the US Army Dental clinic at our local Fort will not provide him care as he is not yet *acutally mobilized* - How fracked up is that. Where is Congress on this one? Grrrrr.....

"YOUTHS" Riot in suburban Paris!?!?!

According to - you guessed it - our jihad apologist friends at the AP -

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,313024,00.html

My guess is that these are the same "YOUTHS" that rioted in 2005 (actually the same 'hood {IIRC})

MORE INTERESTINGLY - the AP refuses to acknoledge that these "YOUTHS" are probably Muslim Jihadist YOUTHS. Instead opting for the "Diverse" view:

"The trigger for the rioting was the deaths of two teens killed in a crash with a police patrol car on Sunday in Villiers-le-Bel, a town of public housing blocks home to a mix of Arab, black and white residents in Paris' northern suburbs."

Absolutely disgusting. Did Bilal Hussien write tat piece?

I wish the best for those French Cops - Take it to 'em boys.

Actually MOST of 'em last night - Looks like a supurb group of ruffians, cops and general neer-de-wells...I think that I like 'em - we started training today (small arms) and it looks pretty damn good so far - I have a LOT of shooters, Infantry, MPs, SRT, SWAT, Snipers, MOs etc. I like it - they are cocky and rough and believe it or not relatively well disciplined. I have to walk that fine line with these guys - like a bunch of Mike Vic trained killer dogs - you have to keep your eye on 'em - right up until you let them do what they do. more...

Some things you operators out there might want to think about -

This was sent to me by an allied operator - Flippy - He got it from someone else - no matter where it came from..its good stuff...

And here it is :

I recently saw on another board a phrase I like very much - "We die in the gaps." It wasn't exactly used in the CQB context, but I think it could be, especially with initiative based CQB. Gaps interrupt the flow, the Zen-like water wave of the flood. Gaps leave things needed doing undone.

Wow - Amazingly people scoff at the Constitution.

Talking about several things in class today, I quoted the 10th Amendment - reading verbatim, trying to explain that in my POV the Federal government is (more accurately - SHOULD BE, according to the LAW) severely restricted in its purview. These guys who are sworn to "Uphold and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic" actually scoffed – dismissively, as if the Constitution was subservient to the feel good politics or (dare I say it?!?) the ECOMOMY - grrr....where are we headed?

10th Amendment -

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

Pretty simple language to me...hmmm....

Reviews!!

Movie: Death Proof / Planet Terror - Grindhouse Double Feature ****

QT and RR ...they DO IT. Very nice pair of flicks. Of course like most other flicks like this - either you love 'em or hate 'em.

Move: The Aristocrats ***

A nice documentary about the most disgusting joke ever. VERY funny.

Movie: Shortbus *

One of those indie movies that is lauded as the best thing since Clerks - only to turn out to be a slightly uncomfortable documentary about people and thier freakish sexual practices. ewwww.

Movie: The Notorious Bettie Page ****

A *very* nice biographical drama of the life and times of America's Puritanical S&M Pinup Girl from the 50s. It is of course a bit racy in spots...but only enough to convey the story.

Movie: V for Vendetta *****

I can't remember if I covered this before - but I had to mention it as I just watched it agian - SUPURB flick....

1 last post before bed - Al Sharpton is an idiot

Regardless of his motivations and his transparent bigotry, he is in fact an idiot. I just regretfully lost three minutes of my life (not to mention IQ points) watching that loudmouth buffoon rant and rave in DC about the "injustices" of the many states policing their own houses. He actually equated the Constitutionally mandated due process of our layered judicial system to the "Confederate States". He implied that those who support that support the 10th Amendment (not to mention the rest of the Constitution) are for nothing more than "States Rights". The sinister implication is that there is an underground (or overt!?!?) movement to restore antebellum values to race relations by steady erosion of civil rights via staunch support of the 10th Amendment.

Rubbish.

Is there ANY possibility that sometimes people are in fact responsible for the crimes they commit regardless of the mitigating and aggravating circumstances? Is it possible that not every violent crime committed against a person of color is a "hate crime"? Is it even possible that when a jury renders a verdict that is not in favor of a person of color (whether victim or accused), it is NOT an indictment of the entire judicial system as being inherently "racist"?

On the other hand - I do understand that racism and bigotry exist. I just do not believe that it is as systemic or widespread as that silly blowhard and his Nation of Islam friends would have us believe. (yes they were there too)

In fact I would ask why the "Jena 6" aren't being screwed into the ground by fat Al for their "hate crime"...instead of being touted as the victims...I still just don't GET that!?!?

Another Day...another type of killing implement....

I gave my first class in instructor school today and the class I gave was on the identification of small arms commonly used by insurgents in Iraq. It went over pretty well...but I think that it was a bit too much for a 15-20 minute class - I have uploaded the ppt and the POI - nothing classified - but kinda interesting to someone I suppose!

Not much to say for now...

My day has been long...and I am in the 3rd day of the Army Instructor Course (a pre-MOB requisite for the mission) and it is not too bad - the really cool thing is that we choose our own class topics for the classes that we have to teach. The Hotel is cool...especially since we have access to the Bally's gym next door... I am looking forward to meeting my troops after Thanksgiving (they are not on orders yet) - a lot to do...a lot to teach them... well...I really have to finish up my first class...I will post more ASAP  Thanks to all for the good wishes and prayers!

SO here we go again...

Well this week I started training for my next Iraq mission. I can't say exactly where I am gonna be or exactly what I will be doing or exactly when I am leaving or returning in this forum...suffice it to say that I will be based in the Baghdad area, but will likely be traveling a bit. I can say that I am an MP in the Army - but most of you already know that. I will be updating this as often as possible - hopefully more than I have been in the past - in fact I am challenging myself to do so - I will give as much info/opinion as I can and post any pics that I can - as long as I am maintaining OPSEC - that being said...

The top 10 things I plan on doing during this deployment -

1) Come back alive and with all my parts

2) Bring back all my troops the same way

3) Take it to the jihadis every chance I get

4) Pass on as much as I can to the IP/IA so that we can all come home

5) Pay off bills

6) finish the book

7) finish at least 1 semester of school

8) not spend too much on BS like hajjivision DVDs or neat guy kit

9) catch up on reading

10) keep my stripes

SCARY ASSAULT WEAPON TERROR!!!

I know it’s not DIRECTLY related to the general topic of the site – but another example of POOR REPORTING….>>

>Referenced story:>>

>The video, picture and story to the causal reader/watcher would look REALLY horrid –

“Cops say teen amassed massive array of weapons and may have planned 'Columbine'-style attack”>>

>BUT, if you read on…>>

>

“I do not think an attack was imminent and I am not certain that an attack was going to occur at all…The weapons found included a 9 mm assault rifle that the teenager's mother had recently bought for him, Castor said. Police also found about 30 air-powered guns, plus swords, knives, hand grenades, a bomb-making book, videos of the 1999 Columbine attack in lace w:st="on">Coloradolace> and violence-filled notebooks. The weapons were plainly visible in the boy's bedroom, Castor said….They found no ammunition for the most dangerous weapon, the assault rifle…Authorities also found one working hand grenade and three others that were still being assembled.”>>

>

My points:>>

The headline and pics are VERY misleading…and the video is shameful.>>

The “Assault Rifle” appears to be a Beretta Model CX4 “Storm, a 9mm (in this case) semi-automatic (NOT FULL AUTO) carbine (NOT AN ASSAULT RIFLE per the BATFE)>>

http://www.cx4storm.com/>>

>>

1994 Assault Weapon Ban (expired) Features List (any two of the following features to meet classification as an assault weapon[rifle]):>>

·         A detachable magazine holding more than 10 rounds (5 rounds for shotguns). >>

·         Military-style appearance, including semi-automatic replicas of military selective-fire assault rifles and machine guns >>

·         A folding or telescoping stock >>

·         Attached grenade launchers such as the M203 or rifle grenade >>

·         On rifles and shotguns, pistol grips that extend vertically from the stock >>

·         A bayonet lug >>

·         Threaded barrel capable of accepting a flash suppressor, muzzle brake, or sound suppressor >>

·         Weapons that include a barrel shroud >>

·         On pistols, those on which the magazine attaches outside of the pistol grip >>

·         A forward mounted pistol grip >>

While “scary” looking, the CX4 has (as you can see) *only one* (the detachable magazine holding more than 10 rounds) of the legally accepted features as defined by the 1994 AWB and BATFE regulations…unless you count the fact that it is black – thus “military-style appearance” – and I don’t know of any major military purchases of the weapon.>>

All the rest were Air Powered “GUNS” – LOL – those things are Airsoft bb “guns” not lethal in any way.>>

The grenade?!?! That is bad – the swords and knives? His stuff is junk – I have had better stuff when I was in schoolJ Now this is not to say the kid *might* have been dangerous….but I had two rifles and a shotgun when I was his age, probably 20 knives and swords, several bb guns and yep, a copy of the “Anarchist’s Cookbook” – I never attacked the “bullies” at my school…or even planned on it…and now I am :>>

A Federal LEO>>

A US ARMY Reservist (Military Police Investigator, w/4 Combat Tours – and leaving for a 5th one soon)>>

A CCW Holder>>

An FFL Holder>>

A college graduate >>

Hmmm….I would say that I turned out to be a responsible adult….maybeJ>>

And still more reviews

Movie: RSVP ***

Decent film noir - lots of death lots of laughs...Jason Mewes plays himself (mostly) but - bickity bam - turns out to be a hero!

Move: Two Soldiers **

Beautiful photography - great acting - horrible story.

Movie: Curse of the Golden Flower ***

Chow Yun Fat in another Chineese super drama - actually captivating - not enough kung-fu for me, the battles were more like the long shots in 300

Movie: Letters From Iwo Jima ****

Damn fine flick, a nice compliment to Flags of our Fathers

Movie: 12 Angry Men ****

The original in b&w - so damn good...nothing but good acting and a great story!

Movie: Iraq in Fragments **

The words of Sunni Iraqis in the 1st year after the invasion - edited and stilted to sow the war in the worst light possible.

Move: The Gangs of New York ****

Loved it in spite of Leo D.

Movie: "Shooter" ***

Not a bad action flick with all kinds of anti Iraq war propaganda. heh.

Movie "F*ck" **

A history of the word as told by (mainly) comics. Not too bad...

Movie "The Nativity Story" ***

Decent portrayal of the "history" of the conception and birth of JC of Nazareth that acting was definately "B" or worse...hmmmm

Review

Movie: "Deja Vu" ****

Nearly perfect...I love that movie...

Movie: "Man of the Year" ***

Decent, really GOOD message for all of those nasty politicos out there...but not as funny as I would have liked.

Book: "Ambush Alley" ****

A historical account of the Battale for the bridges of Nassariyah during the invasion of Iraq. No frills, no commentary, just war. Not for the squeamish, theauthor tells it how it was.

Movie: "L4YERCAKE" ****

Another hit from the Brits...for a bunch of Nancys the Brits sure do GangStar right

Movie: "Afro-Samurai" ****

Damn good anime with lots of fighting, good dialog and Sam Jackson as the protagonist.

Well,, that is all 4 now...

Grab on...stay frosty.

So there I was...again...

...surfing (well trying to, on tiny waves) after work today....nothing but the sound of waves crashing...I realized how much better I like just being alone out there...nothing but me, my board, the ocean. It was nice. It's a place where you can talk to yourself, and no one has a possibility of hearing you. But unlike this blog or my office, when I talk to myself out there it feels like...someone (thing?) is listening. Is it the pull and swell of the waves? Is it the rolling crash of the breakers? It is the cry of those damned seagulls? (Which BTW you are NOT SUPPOSED TO FEED! - and then those idiots wonder why they have bird shit all over their stuff....grrr) I don't know, but it almost like in a place like that you can sense that she...he...it ...is listening, however indifferently to you plight. Sometimes that is all you need. Someone to listen. Not with any input or solutions, just a ready ear.

So there I was...

Watching the movie Deja Vu...the protagonist, Denzel's character says something that was profound in that moment...this series of moments that I have had in these last few days. He says: >>

"Everything you have, you lose, right? Mother, father - gone. Good looks, Pryzwarra? - gone. Loved ones gone in a second. That's what this job teaches you, isn't it? No matter what, no matter how hard you grab onto something - you still lose it, right?" >>

Is that the saddest thing you have ever heard or what? Wow...what more can one say? Makes me sad.>>

Yay some time to post!

So, over the past couple of weeks I have been supa-busy with all kindsa stuff. I have seen some new flicks and read a couple of books, so lets hit that first:

Movie: Pirates of the Carribean III - At Land's End ***

Although it is kinda trippy at the beginning, Johnny Depp pulls off the Kieth Richards that even Keith is unimpressive doing late in the movie. Not bad, just not great!

Movie: Alpha Dog ***

Decent gangSTAR movie with Justin Timerlake. Again, not bad, but not great.

Book: Raising Boys *

Tell me something I don't already know. yeesh. Perfect for complete idiots.

Well, I will get back to this later, work is pressing!

So, again, my appologies, and I will get back on task soon. BTW...what the hell is up with this crazy immigration bill? Is Congress on crack? Jeeeeezzzeeee.....

Ok…so a review or two! (or maybe a bunch!)

Movie: Kevin Smith: Evening Harder ***

The sequel to “An Evening With Kevin Smith” – this is seriously funny for casual fans of the fat man as well as true fan-boys like me! I laughed through both discs (in spite of his Bush bashing)

>

Book: lace w:st="on">Floridalace>’s Seminole Wars ****

A very decent, well written and informative history of early territorial lace w:st="on">Floridalace>. A must read for any OCs (Original Crackers) out there, as well as for anyone who wants a non propaganda version of how the Seminoles were defeated and ultimately what would today be called “ethnically cleansed” from Florida.

Back up and running....I hope!

Sorry it has been so long…getting used to the new job, work schedule and trying to move all at the same time is time intensive to say the least. Additionally, last night I had to go down to the (ex) wife’s house and help evacuate due to a huge wildfire in the area. What a freaking HUGE fire…hopefully her house will not burn, but we got out all of the important kit…you know – kids, documents, guns, clothes (in that order!). I again, hope to be back to regular posting in the immediate future….hopefully starting today.
